"If we don't have a sense of humor, we lack a sense of perspective." Wayne Thiebaud, on of America's most recognizable and critically acclaimed artist said this. I love his work and I love perspective. This is one of many quotes that I found while researching for my painting idea PERSPECTIVE IN PERSPECTIVE. Another quote "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is perspective, not the truth", by Marcus Aurelius, a Stoic philosopher and Roman Emperor. Food for thought!

Definition wise, perspective has two different meanings, one mental and one physical. Again I love this, playing with words to interpret into art. The mental definition is; a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view. The physical definitions; the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point.

Both meanings take place in this series, PERSPECTIVE IN PERSPECTIVE. The mental stance is made in the lively, colorful, animated geometric shapes. We all know the feeling of being locked in an intense emotion or dynamic with another individual. So engaged in this moment, that the surroundings pale in comparison. This is a moment of perspective, a burst of energy (a secret, a concern, a curiosity) for the two colorful figures. So engaged in this intense perspective, we are oblivious to the black and white swirling geometric shapes of the disappearing, but supporting perspective.
